‘Dear Mr President’ is a wonderful song written by Alecia Beth Moore, better known by her stage name: ‘Pink’, and was recorded for her fourth album, ‘I’m not Dead’.
Like many singers, Pink uses her music as a way to communicate with people and to express her feelings about the world. Like she said the song is an open letter to the then President of the United States, George W. Bush, and that is one of the most important songs she had written.
At the beginning of the song, Pink ‘invites’ the President to take a walk with her in which she would like to ask some questions ‘if they can speak honestly’.
During the song, the artist asks many questions that concern her. For instance: ‘How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?’ ‘How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?’ ‘What kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?’
Unfortunately, Pink won’t get answers to her questions because as she says at the end of the song: ‘Dear Mr President, you’d never take a walk with me’.
