What’s the first thing that pops into your head when I say VIRAL? Some of you would think epidemic, but I’m sure, most of you went straight back to that Viral Video you saw lately and you can’t get out of your head.

Nowadays, the way people become FAMOUS has less to do with their skills or their artistry, but with their ability to reach to the people through the media and mainly via Internet.  These days, it’s all about becoming trending topic (in Twitter) or better, a viral Video in YouTube! YouTube is a video sharing website, on which users can upload, view and share videos about unlimited topics. At the beginning, most of the content was being uploaded by individuals with no economical intentions, but lately, it has become the new way of advertising  and it has served as a mirror for anyone who wants to try to become famous.

An early example of the social impact of YouTube was the success of The Bus Uncle video in 2006. Later ” Charlie Bit my Finger” (2007)  became such viral that it actually holds the record for the most views for a non-music video, with over 600 million views.

The most viewed music video ever is the Gangnam Style by PSY.  It was added on July 2012, and became the first YouTube video to receive over 1 billion views on December 2012.

It’s also worth mentioning the enormous impact  it’s having in music industry since 2011 when YouTube launched its own weekly music chart and even today, the Billboard Charts have began to include online streams in its Top 100 lists, allowing the popularity of YouTube videos to influence the position of a song in the charts.
