There is a big project to extract crude near the shores of The Canary Islands which could be an important amount of incomes to the local governments. Despite this, the way the project will be developed aims to a great environmental risk that the islands cannot afford.

It has been proved that deep water extraction, near 1500 meters below sea surface, could have environmental consequences as it happened in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill from DeepWater Horizon Platform in April 2010. Because of the uncontrolled spill, extensive damage to marine habitats, fishing and tourism industries, as well as human health problems, are still happening in 2013.

Can you imagine this oil spill in the Canary Islands habitats? I truly believe that it would be a catastrophe without precedence so that majority of population should migrate to other countries. It would be the end of the “Paradise on Earth”.
