World Always Relapses

Given these days’ news, I’d bet nobody would believe me if I said that I had already thought about this article some weeks ago due to one of the lessons in the book for Advance Level 2. But those news are just one more proof of the title.

Unfortunately, this is not a pessimistic view, it’s a shameful reality written in History books that makes the title of this article absolutely true.

Have you already realised what this article is about? If not, just pay attention to the title and you’ll guess the word I’ve deliberately omitted along the whole article.

I’ve selected some quotes that can make us think. It’s a pity that these sentences are never read by the right reduced group of people, surely they will be too busy playing · · · games for reading this blog.

“History teaches us that men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives.”Abba Eban

“Why do you speak so loud that I cannot hear what you say?”Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Peace is much more precious than a piece of land… let there be no more ···s.”Mohammed Anwar Sadat

“Weapon definition: an index of the lack of development of a culture.”Anonymous

“Half of writing history is hiding the truth.”Serenity (TV series)

“Man’s horizons are bounded by his vision.”Anonymous

“I’m glad I didn’t have to fight in any · · ·.
I’m glad I didn’t have to pick up a gun.
I’m glad I didn’t get killed or kill somebody.
I hope my kids enjoy the same lack of manhood.”
Tom Hanks

“After one look at this planet any visitor from outer space would say: I want to see the manager!”William S. Burroughs

One that people with power should keep in mind:

“Once the game is over, the King and the Pawn go back in the same box.”Italian Proverb

And the one which summarizes this article:

“Hegel was right when he said that we learn from History that man can never learn anything from History.”George Bernard Shaw

Here there’s a song I searched for this article: Waiting on the World to change by John Mayer

I wish one day the only places where · · · remained were books and films. It’s never too late for learning, even for the whole world.

Thanks for reading this! Did you like or dislike any of the quotes? Do you know any other interesting ones? Would you like to give your own opinion? If so, leave a comment please.

  1. I thought we’d learnt something from the last one in which the Spanish took part in. I suppose the next quote is the most suitable in this case: “Hegel was right when he said that we learn from History that man can never learn anything from History.” – George Bernard Shaw” Anyway, the best thing we can do, here and now, is trying to get a better world around us, with our family, friends and even with people we don’t know.

  4. Very good post, Carlos! You are great!
Look around us, just in these moment…Can you see the same I can see? I see wars in Libia,Costa de Marfil, and I Know there are more in another places but news don´t say anything respect them.I can see economic crisis and countries that are trying to overcome their debt into debt.I can see nuclear contamination but there are still people who defend this type of energy.
Why human don´t learn from the past? Why human don´t learn from what’s happening in the present? When science and consciousness will move forward together? And when will we learn from our mistakes? It depends on me and you, it depends on us all. We must act because it is not enough to wait.

    1. Thanks a lot for giving your opinion, Almudena! Unluckily, I don’t have the answers to your questions, does anybody have them? I’ll use here another quote: “Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness.” – James Thurber

  5. Last week, in the middle of a rock concert, oddly I discoverd a new quote I think it must be here too:
“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower
